Ultraviolet purifiers utilize germicidal lamps that are designed and calculated to produce a certain dosage of ultraviolet (usually at least 16,000 microwatt seconds per square centimeter but many units actually have a much higher dosage.) The principle of design is based on a product of time and intensity – you must have a certain amount of both for a successful design.

Ultraviolet disinfection is used in water towers to improve the overall water quality profile while at the same time reducing the demand (usage) of treatment chemicals. We recommend that you treat a minimum side stream of 10% of the total circulatory flow (with 20 – 25% being preferable). Be sure to specify "dual" wavelength germicidal lamps for this application as they provide photochemical treatment as well as biological disinfection.
